just about twenty to twenty-five minutes north of st. paul minnesota is hickory ridge, a quiet, medium-sized town of less than 30,000 people, which is where ~burbia takes place. the small, tight-knit neighborhood has a park, a community pool, and a total of forty homes, including two apartment complexes. the residents have made sure that there is always something going on for themselves and their neighbors, from huge fourth of july parties, to cook outs, parades, concerts, street-wide carnivals, and so on. in a time when residents can go years without knowing each other's names or acknowledging one another past a nod and a weak 'hello', this little community has held on to the idea of making lasting connections with their neighbors.
